Guiding and Supporting Low-Income Families to Promote Health Through. Nutrition Education, Knowledge, and Compassion.

WHAT IS WIC:

A supplemental nutrition program that helps pregnant women, mothers with infants, and young children eat well, be active, and stay healthy. WIC is administered by the United States Department of Agriculture USDA. USDA awards WIC grants to state health departments, who in turn, distributes to local agencies.   The WIC program provides services in all 58 California counties through 80 local WIC agencies, of which 40 are county, city, or local health jurisdictions and 40 are private non-profit health agencies.

YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN CALIFORNIA WIC IF YOU:

    ▪ Live in California.

    ▪ Have children under 5 years old  including those care for by a grandparent,  foster parent, and dads!

    ▪ Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just had a baby.    

    ▪ Have a family income within WIC Guidelines:*

WIC OFFERS FAMILIES:

► Checks to buy healthy foods for each participant.

      ► Helpful tips for healthy eating and active living.

           ► Support and help with breastfeeding.

                ► Help finding other services that you may need.

                     ► Helping finding a doctor and immunizations for your child.

STATISTICS:

In 2007 the MCCAA WIC program served over 15,000 participants per month. WIC has sites throughout Merced and Mariposa counties. Current staffing is 45, one Director, one Administrative Assistant, one. Program Assistant, one Nutrition Coordinator, 3 Registered Dietitian, 2 Degreed Nutritionists, one Lactation Coordinator, one Nursing Nook Assistant, 8 Nutrition Assistant III's (Site Managers), 26 Nutrition Assistant I & II's.
