WIC staff provides various levels of breastfeeding support to participating women. Prenatally, women receive breastfeeding and baby behavior classes. After delivery, mothers receive a hospital visit from a lactation specialist or breastfeeding peer counselor. Mothers may receive additional assistance at any of the WIC sites or they may call for a phone consultation. After office hours a breastfeeding warm line is available to breastfeeding mothers during weekdays from 5pm – 9pm. WIC also offers an Electric Breast Pump loan program for women with hospitalized premature or sick infants and women who are planning back to work or school.
